353 FXUS64 KOHX 170704 AFDOHX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Nashville TN 204 AM CDT Fri May 17 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Saturday) Issued at 133 AM CDT Fri May 17 2024 An approaching shortwave is stirring up showers and storms to our west this morning. These will continue to push east today. Some places will see light rain before sunrise, but the better chance of precip will be during the daylight hours, especially this afternoon. Expect scattered storms throughout the day, but with little instability in place, they should remain benign. The widespread cloud cover will help keep temperatures several degrees cooler this afternoon. Some showers may linger into the overnight hours tonight over the Cumberland Plateau, but we should see a decent break in the early morning hours on Saturday. Showers and storms will develop again on Saturday after sunrise as the upper wave passes directly overhead. There could be a touch more instability around on Saturday afternoon, but shear is still lacking. If we see any storms strengthen enough to produce gusty winds, they would likely be over southeastern Middle TN. Right now it`s not a big concern. This activity will finally push east Saturday night. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday Night through next Friday) Issued at 133 AM CDT Fri May 17 2024 Ridging quickly builds in behind Saturday`s system and we`ll see warming temperatures and plenty of sunshine Sunday through Tuesday. Expect highs well into the 80s each afternoon west of the Plateau. The next chance of showers and storms will come with an approaching front midweek next week...with a focus on Wednesday to Thursday timeframe. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1220 AM CDT Fri May 17 2024 VFR cigs will develop at airports early in the TAF period as SHRA spread into the area from the west. Cigs/vis will lower to MVFR by afternoon with continued -SHRA, and IFR at CSV/SRB by this evening. Although TS are possible this TAF period, chance appears too low to mention in TAFs. Light east to southeast winds are expected through the taf period. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
