Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions will exist today across eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas. Northwesterly winds from 15 to 25 mph, gusting 30 to 40 mph, will develop by late morning and continue through the afternoon across much of the region. Fuels remain very dry from the ongoing drought conditions and relative humidities will fall into the 15 to 25 percent range this afternoon. The result will be elevated to near critical grassland fire spread rates across much of eastern Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas. Avoid outdoor activities that could inadvertently start a fire, including disposing of cigarettes properly. Report any wildfires to local officials. $$
