Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service San Juan PR
341 AM AST Wed Jul 15 2026

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR PORTIONS OF
SOUTHERN PUERTO RICO BETWEEN 10 AM THIS MORNING AND 4 PM AST THIS
AFTERNOON...

An elevated fire danger risk is forecast across portions of
southern, eastern, and northern Puerto Rico today. Under the
influence of a dominant dry air mass and Saharan dust, minimum
relative humidity (RH) values are expected to drop into the low-
to-mid 40s across the southern plains, and into the low 50s across
northern and eastern sectors of the island during the peak
heating hours of the day. At the same time, sustained easterly to
east-southeasterly winds of up to 15 mph, accompanied by stronger
gusts, will combine with increasingly dry fuels to create
favorable conditions for rapid fire spread.

Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather
conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and spread
of wildfires.

Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions
are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning
criteria.
