Summary of Drought Conditions July-Mid August 2026: Above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation persists. Below normal normal streamflows and soil moisture persists Drought is predicted to persists or develop for the rest of the summer Drought intensity and Extent D3 (Extreme Drought): Eastern Lane, southeastern Linn D2 (Severe Drought): Central Lane, Linn, east Benton, east Marion, southeastern Clackamas D1 (Moderate Drought): Western Lane, western Benton, southern Lincoln, Polk, west Marion, southeastern Yamhill, Clackamas, eastern Polk, eastern Multnomah, and south Hood River D0: (Abnormally Dry): Northern Lincoln, western Polk, Yamhill, eastern Tillamook, Washington, Columbia, western Multnomah, northern Hood River, Skamania, Clark, Cowlitz Precipitation In July, below to well below average precipitation fell across much of WA and northern and western OR. August continues to be below normal conditions. Washington`s July was 41 percent of average Oregon`s July was 45 percent of average Temperature Near average temperatures were observed across western OR and WA, while above average temperatures were observed across most of WA and OR east of the Cascades. August continue to see above normal temperatures Washington: 21st warmest July(3.2 DegreesF above normal) Oregon: 15th warmest July (3.8 DegreesF above normal) Summary of Impacts Hydrologic Impacts Below normal to much below streamflow in the Cowlitz, Willamette, and Sandy River systems. Western Oregon Soil Moisture is much below normal in the Willamette Valley Groundwater and stream water quality could worsen with less water Agricultural Impacts Water availability strained by lower than normal precipitation and snowpack. Oregon- Over 75% of topsoil and subsoil moisture classified as short or very short (USDA). Washington- Over 60% of topsoil and subsoil moisture classified as short or very short (USDA) Fire Hazard Impacts Significant fire potential throughout Oregon and Washington persists through September. Other Impacts Hydropower could be impacted with less water in system Mitigation Actions Please refer to your municipality and/or water provider for mitigation information Fire Hazard Impacts Fire potential continues through the summer in Washington and Oregon. Significant fire potential reduces to normal potential starting in October. Drought Outlook The latest monthly and seasonal outlooks can be found on the CPC homepage.
