Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
120 AM CST Fri Mar 6 2026
...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM CST /10 AM MST/
TO 7 PM CST /6 PM MST/ TODAY FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY BELOW 15
PERCENT, 20 FOOT WINDS AROUND 20 MPH OR GREATER, AND HIGH FIRE
DANGER IN THE NEW MEXICO PLAINS, NORTHWEST PERMIAN BASIN,
GUADALUPE, SACRAMENTO, DAVIS MOUNTAINS, MARFA PLATEAU, AND REEVES
COUNTY PLAINS...
.DISCUSSION...
Near-critical to critical fire weather conditions are expected
again today. Min RHs fall below 15% for mainly the western half
of the area. Breezy southwesterly winds develop today and overlap
with the critically low Min RHs, especially for areas across
southeast New Mexico and west of the Pecos River in west Texas. A
cold front will sweep through the area Saturday, improving fire
weather concerns through the weekend as winds decrease and
humidities increase.
