OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
905 AM CDT Mon Aug 31 2026

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

South-southwest winds will become breezy once again this
afternoon, when 25-30 knot gusts are anticipated over at least the
southern two-thirds of the waters. Gales are not anticipated.
Winds weaken overnight as 29.5 inch low pressure shifts from the
Canadian Prairies into Ontario into Tuesday, reaching the
southern shores of the Hudson Bay by Wednesday. Low pressure will
pull a slow-moving cold front over Lake Michigan in the process,
with north-northeast winds establishing in the wake of the
boundary Wednesday. The front may stall over the lake, but exact
location uncertain. With the front in the vicinity, shower and
storm chances continue tonight through at least midweek. A few
stronger storms with gusty winds and hail are possible. If the
front remains close to stationary through the first half of the
week, it will ultimately clear south of Lake Michigan by Thursday,
bringing northeast winds for the end of the week.
