.DISCUSSION...

At the start of the forecast period (9AM) today, Sanford
Stadium will be under partly to mostly cloudy skies, with
temperatures around 64 to 65 degrees. An area of light showers is
ongoing across north Georgia (well to the north/west of Athens),
sweeping eastward and continuing to deteriorate through mid-
morning -- currently not expecting this activity to impact campus
or the stadium. An isolated shower is possible between 10AM and
noon, patchy in coverage (if anything materializes) and chances
for thunder during this time will be 10% or less. Rain chances
will begin to increase in earnest through the early afternoon
(generally beginning around noon to 1PM). Updated model guidance
and trends now suggest the most likely window for direct impacts
to campus/the stadium would be between 2PM and 10PM. Chances for
rain peak around 45 to 55% during this timeframe, with
corresponding chances for thunder and thus the potential for
lightning sitting at 30-40%. Rain chances will begin to taper off
after 10PM (to about 30 to 35%) and more appreciably by 1 to 2AM
(15 to 20%). Precipitation totals will be light, with up to a
quarter to a third of an inch forecast from 8AM Saturday through
2AM Sunday. Higher amounts (up to an inch) are possible should any
thunderstorms pass directly over the stadium. Highs on Saturday
will be slightly "cooler" under increased cloud cover and as the
effects of the cold front are felt, reaching 81 degrees around
1-2PM. From there, temperatures will begin to cool gradually, to
70 degrees around 8PM, and to 64 degrees by 11PM. Apparent
temperatures will be within a degree of air temperatures.

Winds will be out of the southwest at 5 to 10 mph with occasional
gusts to 15 to 18 mph during the afternoon. If thunderstorms pass
over or are in the vicinity, an errant gust to 30 or perhaps 40
mph is possible.

Fog formation is likely late tonight following the conclusion of
any showers and thunderstorms. It is unlikely to impact egress
from the stadium, but load-out could become misty and potentially
foggy depending on duration. Worst visibilities are likely to
occur between 5 to 8AM, and could be as low as 1 mile, perhaps
slightly lower locally.
