.DISCUSSION...
Elevated fire weather conditions and very hot temperatures are
expected across the area. Expect widespread highs between 95 and
108 degrees over the high plains both today and tomorrow. The
hot temperatures will push RH to near critical values, with min
RH expected generally to be between 15 and 20%. Southerly winds
will develop late this morning with occasional gusts up to 25
mph. Confidence is low in wind being consistent enough to warrant
a Red Flag Warning, so no headlines were issued at this time.
In addition, widely scattered high-based showers and thunderstorms
are expected to develop this afternoon and evening across much
of the area. There is enough moisture to keep true dry t-storms
at bay, but widespread wetting rainfall is unlikely with this
activity. Instead, expect occasional lightning and gusty and
erratic winds to cover a larger area than the rainfall. Sunday will
bring another chance for high-based pseudo-dry thunderstorms, but
coverage is expected to be more limited.
Improved monsoon moisture is expected to return to the area
Monday, reducing fire weather concerns thereafter.
