Breezy winds will continue and increase in the wake of a strong Arctic front crossing the state this afternoon. Gusts will generally be between 20 and 30 mph. Temperatures will peak early in the day before falling, with midday highs reaching the lower to mid 30s over the southeast, and the 20s from Pittsburgh to State College to Scranton. The northwest and north central mountains will see temperatures peak in the teens early, then slowly fall through the day. The strong Arctic front will bring much colder temperatures tonight into Saturday. Wind chills will drop below zero area wide on Saturday morning, with Cold Weather Advisories in effect for much of the Commonwealth. Extreme Cold Warnings are in effect for portions of the Laurel Highlands and Poconos. Temperatures may not rise back above freezing for the next week. Confidence continues to increase for a significant winter storm affecting the area Saturday night through Monday morning. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across western Pennsylvania and Winter Storm Watches continue for the remainder of the state. Total snow accumulations of 10 inches or more are possible statewide. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Continue to monitor the forecast. Now is the time to prepare! $$
