PM EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy lake effect snow.
  Additional snow accumulations up around an inch. For the Winter
  Weather Advisory, snow expected. Total snow accumulations between
  4 and 9 inches.

* WHERE...Northern Herkimer County.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until 7 AM EST this morning.
  For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 1 PM this afternoon to 1 PM
  EST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult due to the combination of snow
  covered roads and reduced visibilities.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The lake effect snow band is expected to
  continue to weaken and lift north of the area through the rest of
  tonight. For this afternoon and evening, snowfall rates may reach
  up to 1 inch per hour at times along the south facing slopes.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while
driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken
on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and
slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can
also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.

  afternoon to 1 PM EST Thursday.
