Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
211 AM CDT Thu May 7 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Dry conditions will continue for much of region through the end of
the week. Relative humidity this afternoon will drop between 20 and
30 percent. Winds will be marginal today, turning north/northwest by
the midday with gusts up to 20 mph. However, Friday will be breezy
with northwest wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph by the afternoon. This
combining with afternoon humidity dropping once again between 20 and
30 percent could potentially create elevated fire weather concerns
as rainfall has been sparse the last week.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to high category.
