...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 below expected.

* WHERE...In North Carolina, Ashe and Watauga Counties. In Virginia,
  Grayson and Bath Counties.

* WHEN...Until noon EST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could
  result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken.
  An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured
  water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below.

* WHERE...Western Greenbrier County.

* WHEN...Until noon EST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero
  could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
  Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is
  exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
  temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 to 30 degrees
  below zero expected.

* WHERE...In Maryland, Garrett and Extreme Western Allegany
  Counties. In Virginia, Western Highland and Eastern Highland
  Counties, and Northern Virginia Blue Ridge and Central
  Virginia Blue Ridge. In West Virginia, Western Grant, Western
  Mineral, Western Pendleton and Eastern Pendleton Counties.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM EST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia are likely if exposed to
  these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
  temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The coldest wind chills are expected
  between midnight and 9 am late tonight into Wednesday morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Wear protective clothing such as a hat, facemask and heavy gloves
or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors. To prevent freezing
and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-
ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground
pipes to protect them from freezing.
