South Branch Potomac River near Springfield affecting Hardy and
Hampshire Counties.
For the South Branch Potomac River...including Franklin, Moorefield
- SF, Petersburg, Springfield...Minor flooding is forecast.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...
* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.
* WHERE...South Branch Potomac River near Springfield.
* WHEN...Until just after midnight tonight.
* IMPACTS...At 15.0 feet, Milleson Mill Road (County Route 28/5) and
Clarence Taylor Road (Route 3/7) begin to flood. Water covers a
significant portion of meadowlands near the river. The boat launch
ramp on the upstream right abutment of the bridge also floods.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 3:30 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 14.9 feet, or 0.1 feet
below flood stage.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 15.0
feet this evening.
- Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
15.0 feet on 01/16/1995.

- At 121 PM EDT, gauge reports indicated heavy rain. Flooding
is already occurring in the warned area.
- Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is
expected.

expected.
* WHERE...A portion of western Maryland, including the following
county, Allegany.
* WHEN...Until 630 PM EDT Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams
continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1228 PM EDT, a stream gauge on Town Creek indicates minor
flood is ongoing due to rain that occurred over the past
twenty four hours. Flooding is already occurring in the
warned area. Between 2.5 and 5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
mainly rural areas of Central Allegany County

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* WHERE...Potomac River at Paw Paw.
* WHEN...Until tomorrow morning.
* IMPACTS...At 25.0 feet, A parking area adjacent to the highway
bridge begins to flood. The roadway to the C&O Canal parking area
floods, as does the lowest end of the Purslane Run hiker/biker
area.
At 26.0 feet, Water covers an access road on the West Virginia side.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:00 AM EDT Wednesday the stage was 27.1 feet, or 2.1
feet above flood stage.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 10:00 AM EDT Wednesday was 27.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 28.6
feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage just
after midnight tonight.
- Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
28.8 feet on 06/23/1972.
