Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Chicago IL
248 AM CDT Fri Apr 4 2025
...Rainfall may lead to localized flooding tonight...
A period of soaking rainfall is expected this afternoon and tonight
across the Mississippi River Valley. A gradient in rainfall totals
is expected across northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana, with
amounts increasing with southward extent. Chances for 1 inch of rain
are around 30 percent along a line from Pontiac, IL to Cedar Lake,
IN, and around 70 percent along a line from Paxton, IL to Remington,
IN.
Recent rainfall has led to saturated soils and elevated river
levels, especially along and southeast of Interstate 55. As a
result, additional rain this afternoon through tonight may lead to
localized flooding of yards, fields, creeks, ditches, and other poor
drainage areas.
This outlook means that flooding may occur but with a generally
lower than 30 percent chance of occurrence at any given location.
Persons should closely monitor forecasts including the possibility
of flood watches, warnings, and advisories.
The next scheduled update to this outlook is this afternoon.

926 PM EDT Thu Apr 3 2025
...Heavy rainfall may cause flooding late Friday into Saturday...
Periods of showers and thunderstorms, heavy rainfall at times, are
possible over portions of the area through Saturday afternoon.
Flooding of rivers, creeks, ditches, and poor drainage areas is
possible across portions of northern Indiana, southern Michigan, and
northwestern Ohio.
Rainfall amounts up to 1-2 inches may occur with locally heavier
amounts possible, the highest amounts will be generally south of
State Route 30.
Moist soils and elevated river levels from recent rainfall
may increase runoff and the chances that rivers and creeks near or
exceed flood stage. Flooding of yards, fields, and other poor
drainage areas may also occur.
This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential impacts
are possible, but not yet certain. Persons should closely monitor
forecasts including the possibility of flood watches, warnings, and
advisories.
