...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CDT TODAY...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
* WHERE...Southwestern Jewell County in north central Kansas...
Northwestern Mitchell County in north central Kansas...
Osborne County in north central Kansas...
Southeastern Smith County in north central Kansas...
* WHEN...Until noon CDT.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of some creeks, streams, and other low-lying and
flood-prone locations in the Warning area is likely still ccurring.
It could take seveeal more hours for area creeks and streams to
return into their banks.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 617 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that at least 2 to 5 inches of rain fell in the Warning area...
mainly on Wednesday...with law enforcement reporting considerable
flooding in the Osborne and Downs areas on Wednesday, including
several roads that needed barricaded due to flooding. Although it
has been several hours since the very heaviest rain fell, at last
minor flooding likely continues in portions of the Warning area.
In addition, the Warning area could see another 1-2 inches of
rain yet today before rain finally ends late this afternoon or
early evening, with any additional rain slowing the improvement
of existing flooding issues. Fortunately, at least a brief
stretch of dry weather is expected between this evening and at
least Friday afternoon.
- This includes, but is not limited to, the following streamsand
drainages...
Covert Creek, Limestone Creek, East Oak Creek, Joy Creek, Twin
Creek, Salt Creek, Granite Creek, Oak Creek, Twelvemile Creek,
Indian Creek, Porcupine Creek, East Twin Creek, Paradise Creek,
Wolf Creek, East Kill Creek, Middle Limestone Creek, Center Twin
Creek, Spring Creek, Kill Creek, Lawrence Creek, Mill Creek,
Little Oak Creek, Carr Creek, West Limestone Creek, Eagle Creek,
Medicine Creek, and Walnut Creek.
- Some locations that could experience flooding include...
Osborne, Downs, Cawker City, Tipton and Portis, but main rural
areas near these towns.

South Fork Solomon Near Osborne affecting Osborne County.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is forecast.
* WHERE...South Fork Solomon near Osborne.
* WHEN...Until Friday evening.
* IMPACTS...At 14.0 feet, the north approach and bridge on 70th
Avenue will begin to flood. In addition...Access to Shady Bend Golf
Course via the club house will be cut off.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 3:30 AM CDT Thursday the stage was 13.4 feet...slightly below
the minor flood stage of 14.0 feet.
- Forecast...Although the river stage was very slowly dropping as
of 330 AM CDT Thursday, it could again rise and go above flood
stage at some point today, potentially cresting around 15.0 feet
this afternoon. If this rise above flood stage does actually
occur today, it would then be expected to fall back below flood
stage late this evening into early Friday morning.
- Flood stage is 14.0 feet.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two
feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don`t
drown.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL TOMORROW MORNING...
* WHAT...Moderate flooding is forecast. This approaches the flood of
record.
* WHERE...Salt Creek at Barnard.
* WHEN...Until tomorrow morning.
* IMPACTS...At 24.0 feet, Expect flooding of agricultural fields to
an extent of 3/4 of a mile coverage. Flood waters cover Highway
284 east of the creek bridge to around 260th Road, expect road
closure. Numerous roads along and near the Salt Creek flood.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1:30 AM CDT Thursday the stage was 19.0 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
early this morning to a crest of 24.0 feet this morning. It
will then fall below flood stage this afternoon.
- Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
