SOUTH DAKOTA...

The National Weather Service in Aberdeen has issued a Red Flag
Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect
from 1 PM CDT /noon MDT/ this afternoon to 8 PM CDT /7 PM MDT/
this evening.

* AFFECTED AREA...In South Dakota, Corson, Campbell, McPherson,
  Walworth, Edmunds, Dewey, Potter, Faulk, Stanley, Sully,
  Hughes, Hyde, Hand, Jones, Lyman and Buffalo.

* WINDS...South 20 to 35 with gusts 35 to 45 mph today. Northwest
  30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph for Saturday.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 to 30 percent today. As low as
  15 to 25 percent Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become
  difficult to control or suppress.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
Red Flag Warnings.

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHEASTERN
WYOMING AND WESTERN SOUTH DAKOTA TODAY AND TOMORROW...

.Gusty south to southwest winds are expected to develop across
the region today as a cold front approaches the area. Sustained
winds will reach 15 to 30 mph, with some gusts as high as 45 mph.
Ahead of the front, a warm and dry air mass will also overspread
the region. Relative humidity values this afternoon will fall
below 20 percent across much of the area, with some locations in
northeastern Wyoming and southwestern South Dakota dropping below
10 percent.

As the front crosses the area tonight into Saturday morning,
relative humidity values may briefly recover above 25 percent.
However, critical or near-critical relative humidity values are
expected to return by Saturday afternoon. Coupled with strong
northwest winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph or
greater, critical fire weather conditions are expected to persist
through Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a Red Flag
Warning for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in
effect from noon MDT /1 PM CDT/ today to 6 PM MDT /7 PM CDT/
Saturday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 314 Northern Campbell, 315
  Southern Campbell, 316 Crook County Plains, 317 Weston County
  Plains, 318 Wyoming Black Hills, 319 Northern Black Hills, 320
  Central Black Hills, 321 Southern Black Hills, 322 Fall River
  County Area, 323 Northern Foot Hills, 324 Eastern Foot Hills,
  325 Custer County Plains, 326 Pine Ridge Area, 327 Butte
  County Area, 328 Perkins County, 329 West Central Plains, 330
  Ziebach County, 331 Haakon County Area, 332 Badlands Area, 333
  Bennett County Area, 334 Mellette and Todd Counties and 335
  Tripp County.

* WINDS...Today, south to southwest 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to
  45 mph. On Saturday, northwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55
  mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Today, as low as 9 percent. On Saturday, as
  low as 13 percent.

* IMPACTS...The combination of gusty winds and low relative
  humidity would produce critical fire weather conditions.
