.Update...Changes to the tornado that passed through
St. Louis County, St. Louis City, and Madison County
in IL on 05/16/25 have been made.

Survey Summary:
The tornado touched down immediately east of Interstate 170 near
Forest Park Parkway, quickly reaching EF-1 strength as it moved
eastward. As it moved into the Forest Park, the tornado began to
widen and shift to the northeast, reaching EF-2 strength
immediately north of the park. Shortly thereafter, the tornado
reached its maximum intensity (EF-3, 152 mph winds) and width
(1.8 miles) as it moved north of Delmar Boulevard, before briefly
falling back to EF-2 strength. The tornado again reached EF-
3 intensity through portions of Fountain Park and the Greater
Ville, with its width narrowing to 1.4 miles. Additional
widespread EF-2 damage was surveyed through O Fallon and O Fallon
Park. The tornado began to quickly dissipate as it reached the
Mississippi River, falling to EF-1 strength and the width
dropping below 1 mile. The tornado then ended on the north side
of Granite City. In addition to a ground survey, hi-res aerial
imagery from the MOSAVE coalition and Vexcel satellite imagery
was used to determine damage extent.

Survey Summary:
A second tornado developed as the St. Louis tornado was
dissipating, touching down in Granite City near Niedringhaus
Avenue and 19th Street. This tornado remained at EF-0 intensity
as it tracked to the northeast. As the tornado moved north of
Pontoon Beach, it briefly strengthened to EF-1 strength. The
tornado continued to the northeast, crossing the I-255/I-
270 interchange, intensifying to EF-1 strength as it moved toward
and just south of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. The
tornado then dissipated as it moved into southwestern
Edwardsville. In addition to a ground survey, hi-res aerial
imagery from the MOSAVE coalition and Vexcel satellite imagery
was used to determine damage extent.
