897 WTPQ81 PGUM 080451 HLSPQ1 URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED TROPICAL CYCLONE LOCAL STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU 251 PM ChST Fri May 8 2026 ...TROPICAL STORM HAGUPIT CONTINUES TO MOVE WEST-NORTHWEST THROUGH YAP STATE... .NEW INFORMATION... None. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended action for people on Yap, Ngulu, Ulithi, and Fais in Yap State. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Ngulu, Ulithi, Fais in Yap State, Yap Proper and adjacent coastal waters. A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions, including winds of 39 to 73 mph, are expected within 24 hours. .STORM INFORMATION... At 100 PM CHST, the center of Tropical Storm Hagupit was located near Latitude 8.6 degrees North and Longitude 139.5 degrees East. Hagupit is moving west-northwest at 15 mph. It is expected to maintain this general course with a decrease in forward speed through Saturday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 45 mph. Hagupit is forecast to intensify a bit more tonight, then remain a tropical storm the next few days. Hagupit is still expected to reach peak intensity on Saturday and continues to be less likely to become a strong tropical storm at this time. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 110 miles to the north. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Hagupit remains a Tropical Storm east-southeast of Yap Proper. TS Hagupit continues to move west-northwest, as it approaches Fais, Ulithi, Yap Proper and Ngulu. Hagupit looks to maintain this west- northwest trek over the next few days, remaining at its current intensity through this evening, before gradually intensifying tonight. Hagupit is expected to remain a tropical storm through Monday, reaching peak intensity late tonight or Saturday as it passes between Yap and Ngulu. As TS Hagupit continues its west-northwest trek through western Yap State, the wind field looks to expand slightly northward and southeastward, with Fais and Ulithi still expected to see tropical storm force winds this afternoon. The Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for these locations. Tropical Storm force winds continue to be expected for Ngulu and Yap later this afternoon, so Tropical Storm Warnings remain remains in effect for both locations. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For those under a warning, preparations should be already be complete. Evacuate or move to adequate shelter if your location is vulnerable to tropical storm conditions. Heed the advice of local officials and comply with any orders that are issued. For interests at ports, docks, and marinas, your prescribed preparations according to your emergency operations plan for tropical cyclones should be complete. If you live on a boat, your craft should now be safely secure and you should now be in adequate land-based shelter. Regarding the coastal waters under a Watch or Warning, small craft should return to port or seek safe harbor. Be sure to actively listen for forthcoming information from your local National Weather Service and emergency management offices. Closely monitor local news outlets for official storm information. Listen for possible changes to the forecast. When making decisions, do not focus on the exact forecast track. The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam at 9 PM ChST this evening, or earlier if conditions warrant. && ...ULITHI AND FAIS... ...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT... .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Preparations to protect life and property from Tropical Storm conditions should be complete, as the weather will continue to deteriorate this afternoon. Significantly stronger gusts and intense rains will cause outside activities to become dangerous. Loose outdoor objects should have been secured by now; if not, they can be blown around and become dangerous projectiles. If you live in a metal roof or container home, leave it for more substantial shelter as soon as possible before the onset of the most threatening impacts. .WIND INFORMATION... Strong northeasterlies are rapidly increasing as Hagupit approaches the area this afternoon. Tropical Storm force winds of 35 to 45 mph are expected for the duration of the passage, with gusts to 60 mph possible. The current forecast has Ulithi and Fais exiting TS winds by late tonight or early Saturday morning, with moderate to fresh south-southeast to southeast winds expected in its wake. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Hazardous surf, minor coastal inundation and significant beach erosion are expected. Surf can potentially reach dangerous levels of 15 feet or more, making it life-threatening to anyone venturing out. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Periods of heavy rainfall are likely as Hagupit passes nearby, with the heaviest showers expected closer to the center, along the northeastern to eastern flanks. Additional rainfall of 7 to 11 inches will be possible near the center with locally higher amounts, and may produce localized flooding. Seas of 10 to 15 feet are likely to as Hagupit makes its way across the area. && ...YAP AND NGULU... ...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT... .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Strong northeasterlies are rapidly increasing as Hagupit approaches this afternoon, initially for Yap, then Ngulu shortly thereafter. The current forecast track has TS Hagupit passing between Yap and Ngulu, with Yap expected to see the stronger winds, especially tonight. Tropical storm force winds of 35 to 45 mph will be possible this evening as Hagupit approaches, to then increase to 50 mph coming from the north to northeast. The current forecast has TS winds departing Yap and Ngulu late Saturday morning or early afternoon as Hagupit moves farther to the west-northwest, with moderate to fresh south to southeast winds with occasional near gale-force gusts in its wake. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Hazardous surf, minor coastal inundation and significant beach erosion is expected. Surf can potentially reach dangerous levels of 15 feet or more, making it life-threatening to anyone venturing out. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
