... INCREASED FIRE DANGER FROM LATE THIS MORNING THROUGH EARLY
EVENING...

Low relative humidity values of 20-25% will combine with wind
gusts of 25 to 30 mph and drying fuels to result in an increased
danger across portions of the Virginia Piedmont.

Residents are urged to exercise caution handling any potential
ignition source...including machinery... cigarettes...and matches.
Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials. Any dry grasses
and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread
quickly.

Virginia residents are reminded that open burning is
prohibited before 4 pm each day through April 30th.

...INCREASED FIRE DANGER FOR MUCH OF EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA TODAY...

The combination of drying fuels, southwest winds around 15 mph
with gusts around 25 mph, and relative humidity values dropping to
around 25 percent will result in increased fire danger threat for
much of eastern North Carolina.

The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide ban on
all open burning and has cancelled all burning permits until
further notice. The NC Forest Service will continue to monitor
conditions. Residents with questions can contact their NC Forest
Service county ranger or their county fire marshal`s office.
