Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL
National Weather Service Saint Louis MO

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 5 PM CDT
THIS AFTERNOON...
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 PM
CDT THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

A brief period (~2-4 hours at any given location) of critical
fire danger is expected today due to very strong southerly winds,
low relative humidity values (20-25%), and dry fuels. Relative
humidity values will increase pretty steadily later this afternoon
through tonight as much colder air filters into the region. Winds
will veer a bit more to the southwest today, before turning
out of the northwest tonight behind the cold front.

Much cooler temperatures are forecast on Thursday (highs in
upper 40s to low 50s). However, very low dewpoints will still
yield minimum relative humidity values in the 25-40 percent range.
The combination of cooler than normal temperatures and northwest
winds slackening in the afternoon should preclude elevated fire
danger however.

There is a better chance of elevated fire danger once again
on Friday afternoon as winds increase out of the south and
temperatures climb well into the 60s. The next chance of any
widespread, significant (at least 0.25" of rain) does not come
until Saturday night - Sunday night.
