Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western
and North Central for Nebraska
National Weather Service North Platte NE
335 AM CDT Wed Mar 19 2025

...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MDT THIS EVENING...
...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...

Strong, gusty northerly winds continue through this evening across
most of western and north central Nebraska, with peak gusts of 55
to 60 mph or greater. By this evening, winds begin to calm and
take on a southwesterly direction overnight. Temperatures remain
near seasonal today, with highs in the 40s. Although the recent
precipitation with this system was fairly meager across most of
the region, it should help limit fire weather concerns this
afternoon, despite the strong winds. Additionally, cloud cover is
expected through the mid afternoon, which along with recent
precipitation should contribute to minimum afternoon humidities in
the 30 to 40 percent range.

Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions return on
Thursday and last through the weekend, due to a combination of
above average temperatures, lower humidity values, and gusty
winds. Temperatures return to above average with daily highs in
the 50s and 60s across the region, with afternoon humidity values
dropping to around 15 to 25 percent. Winds alternate from
southwesterly to northwesterly through the weekend. Friday and
Sunday are currently forecast to have the highest winds in this
period, with gusts up to 45 mph possible on both days.
