Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
353 AM CDT Wed Mar 19 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Moderately strong southerly winds will continue across the region
through sunrise, along with scattered-broken layers of high
clouds. However, surface winds will shift to SSW and increase
considerably between 7-10 AM CDT, as an area of low pressure
begins to lift northeastward across the Mid-MS Valley. Rapid
return of low-level moisture is expected to occur under these
conditions, contributing to a layer of low stratus clouds region-
wide and perhaps some light showers across northwest AL this
afternoon. To the west of our region, scattered thunderstorms will
develop along an approaching surface trough, with this activity
expected to evolve into a fast-moving band of showers and storms
that will cross the region from W-to-E this evening (featuring a
risk for hail and locally damaging winds). The surface trough will
be followed by a cold front later Thursday morning, with low
clouds and wrap-around showers possible for much of the day. Smoke
dispersion indices will be in the good range both today and
Thursday, largely due to transport winds of 25-35 MPH.

Fog potential over the next few days: None at this time.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
