.DISCUSSION...
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect until this evening for North and
Northwest Georgia for low relative humidities and gusty winds. A
Fire Danger Statement is in effect for the rest of the fire zones
this afternoon. If you do burn outside, use extreme caution.
An approaching front will bring gusty winds to north and northwest
Georgia this afternoon. Winds will be out of the SW at 10-15 mph
with gusts as high as 25 MPH. Ridgetops and peaks have the best
chance of reaching or exceeding Red Flag Criteria, so please
continue to monitor the forecast closely in case the watch is
upgraded.
There is still uncertainty in the forecast as to whether or not we
will reach Red Flag Warning criteria for areas lower than 1500 feet.
It seems likely that Red Flag Criteria will be realized along the
higher terrain, while a Fire Danger Statement will likely be
sufficient in covering valleys and areas of lower elevation. Minimum
RH values will fall into the mid 20s to upper teens this
afternoon, but SW flow and approaching moisture may limit how far
these values fall.
The front will reach NW GA sometime after 8 PM tonight and quickly
put an end to any lingering Fire Weather concerns. QPF values remain
on the light side, with most of the northern districts receiving
somewhere between 0.10-0.20" inches of rain. With dry conditions
heading into the weekend, a burn window will be likely again this
weekend.
