A strong storm system pushes through the region Thursday night,
increasing winds to near or above criteria in El Paso starting
Thursday afternoon from the southwest. Reduced visibility as a
result of blowing dust is expected Thursday afternoon and early
evening, possibly continuing into Friday morning. Visibility
reductions to a quarter mile or below are possible later on
Thursday.

Winds are forecast to reach their peak early Friday morning (3-6
am) with sustained winds of 30-40 knots and gusting up to 60 knots
from the west during that timeframe. Winds decrease somewhat on
Friday but still above criteria, generally 20-30 knots with gusts
to 40 knots. Friday night into Saturday morning may see a lull in
the winds to below criteria for a few hours, but will increase
again during the day on Saturday. By midnight Saturday night,
winds are expected to fall below criteria, ending this long-
duration wind event.
