.DISCUSSION...

A few light rain and snow showers will be the most notable weather
item today and Saturday as a couple weak shortwaves sneak by the
region. Any accumulation through Saturday will be meager at best as
some lower elevations may see a few hundredths of rain with mountain
peaks receiving a trace to an inch of snowfall. Otherwise, the next
few days will be predominately dry and mild with extensive cloud
cover making for a gloomy start to the weekend.

A significant warm-up remains in store Sunday through Wednesday,
owing to unseasonably strong high pressure aloft. Daytime highs will
reach the 60s and 70s for Sierra and western Nevada communities,
respectively, which is 10-20 degrees above seasonal averages or more
typical for late May. In fact, some western Nevada locales will
flirt with the 80F mark on Tuesday and Wednesday with Reno having a
50% chance of reaching this feat Tuesday afternoon.

The aforementioned high pressure weakens and translates eastward on
Wednesday, allowing for eastern Pacific troughing to develop during
the latter half of next week. As of now, blended guidance advertises
a return of gusty winds Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, followed
by increasing shower chances Wednesday evening into Thursday.
Preliminary indications are that this midweek storm won`t be a
particularly strong one, but may provide wind and snow impacts to
travel and recreational activities. Stormy weather remains favored as
we say goodbye to March and welcome in April.

.AVIATION...

Brief periods of MVFR conditions will remain possible at KTRK and
KTVL through Saturday afternoon due to light showers and low
cloudiness. Periodic MVFR conditions will be possible for KRNO-KCXP-
KMEV Saturday afternoon when -SHRA is most likely (15-20% chance).
Mountain obscuration will be a concern for all terminals through
Saturday given the persistence of regional low clouds. Otherwise,
VFR conditions will prevail through the weekend.
