.DISCUSSION...
Red Flag Warnings will continue for the Upper Kobuk and Lower Koyukuk
for hot/dry/windy conditions Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will
be warming across much of the Western Interior through Saturday.
We will see widespread mid to upper 80s north of Kaltag and mid
70s south of Kaltag. The coastal areas will be in the mid 60s to
mid 70s. The minimum RH values will follow a similar pattern with
areas north of Kaltag in the low to mid 20s to mid 30s, and south
of Kaltag in the 50s. Winds are expected to be light with the
exception of in the Kobuk/Koyukuk Valley on Thursday when gusts
may be as high as 25 mph. Most of the winds will be from the east
with the exception of the Coastal areas receiving Sea Breeze
effects.
Thunderstorm chances will move west Thursday with isolated
thunderstorms expected from the Nulato Hills to the tip of the
Seward Peninsula. There could be widely scattered thunderstorms
due to orographic lift in the terrain north and west of Nome,
as well as the southern portion of the Brooks Range near Red Dog
Mine.
