.KEY MESSAGES...

* Temperatures will continue to warm through the weekend, with
  readings climbing to around 15 degrees above normal by Monday.

* Breezy conditions are possible across the southern Great Basin by
  the middle of next week.

.DISCUSSION...Today through Friday.

A building ridge of high pressure over the Desert Southwest this
weekend will bring hot temperatures to much of the region.
Temperatures will peak Monday and Tuesday, with afternoon readings
running around 15 degrees above seasonal normals. Moderate HeatRisk
(level 2 out of 4) will spread across the southern half of the
forecast area, including Las Vegas, Kingman, Barstow, and Twentynine
Palms. Major HeatRisk (level 3 out of 4) is expected in some of the
lower desert valleys, including Death Valley and cities in the lower
Colorado River Valley. Temperatures will begin to moderate by
midweek as a shortwave moves into the region. As this wave moves
into the area, winds will also increase, with southwest wind gusts
of 20 to 30 mph possible over the southern Great Basin from Tuesday
afternoon through Thursday afternoon.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Winds
will remain light, 8 knots or less, and will follow typical,
daily directional trends with periods of light and variable winds
as they transition. VFR conditions prevail, with FEW mid-level
clouds around 12kft expected this afternoon, and passing bands of
high clouds around 25kft on Sunday. Temperatures today will top
out close to 100F between 22-02Z.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Winds across the
region today will generally follow typical daily directional
patterns with speeds around 5-10KT. The exception to this will be
across the western Mojave Desert including KDAG, where winds
remain westerly, with wind gusts to around 25KT develop later this
afternoon, continuing into the evening hours. VFR conditions
prevail, with passing bands of mid-level clouds around 12kft this
afternoon, and high clouds around 25kft.
