Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...Mild today with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Minimum relative humidities will range from 35 to 55 percent with
the driest conditions across southwestern South Dakota. Winds will
be from the southwest at 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 20. A
disturbance moving up from Nebraska will bring chances for rain
and maybe some light snow to south central South Dakota later
tonight. Meanwhile a cold front moving into northwestern South
Dakota will bring chances for a brief burst of rain and snow to
primarily the northwestern South Dakota plains.

The grassland fire danger index will reach the moderate category
this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a lowering
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire
to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely monitored.

The outlook for Friday afternoon, The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category to high category.

The grassland fire danger index will reach the low category this
afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low.
Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be performed
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.
