Rangeland Fire Danger Statement

.DISCUSSION...Mild and dry today with highs in the upper 40s to
low 50s across northwestern into south central South Dakota and in
the 60s across southwestern South Dakota and the foothills.
Afternoon humidities will range from around 30 to 35% across
northwestern into south central South Dakota. Afternoon humidities
across southwestern South Dakota will range from 25 to 30%.
Breezy southeast winds will develop over northwestern South Dakota
this afternoon with sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts of
up to 30 mph. A cool front moving through late Tuesday will bring
chances for showers and isolated thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon
with chances for showers persisting through Wednesday.
Unseasonably warm and dry conditions for the latter part of the
week.

The grassland fire danger index will reach the moderate category
this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a lowering
moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on
the ground, indicate that there is some potential for a fire
to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely monitored.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon, The grassland fire danger

The grassland fire danger index will reach the high category this
afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground,
indicate that there is high potential for a fire to spread.
Outdoor burning should be restricted to early morning
or evening hours when wind speeds are usually lower and the
relative humidity is higher.
