SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. RISK...Limited. AREA...Primarily north of Interstate 40. ONSET...After 4 PM. HEAVY RAIN. RISK...Limited. AREA...Northeast Oklahoma into Far Northwest Arkansas. ONSET...After 4 PM. DANGEROUS HEAT. RISK...Elevated. AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. ONSET...Ongoing. DISCUSSION... Afternoon heat index values of 104 to 108 degrees will raise the heat stress across portions of eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas. A heat advisory remains in effect through 7 PM. Scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop or move into portions of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas by mid to late afternoon. A few severe storms are likely with large hail and locally damaging winds possible. Additional storms may spread into the region late tonight and continue into the morning on Monday. These storms will likely have a lesser risk of severe weather but a few strong storms will remain possible. Locally heavy rainfall will remain a possibility through tonight. Localized flooding could develop quickly. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Local Spotter Activation May Be Needed. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Monday through Saturday. MONDAY...Thunderstorm and Dangerous Heat Potential. TUESDAY through THURSDAY...Thunderstorm Potential. FRIDAY and SATURDAY...No Hazards. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... Scattered thunderstorms will spread south across much of the area Monday into Monday evening as a weak cold front drifts south through the area. Damaging downburst winds and locally heavy rainfall will be the main threats with the storms. Afternoon heat index values will again climb into the 100 to 105 degree range especially south of the slow moving front.
