ONSET...Ongoing.

DANGEROUS HEAT.
RISK...Significant.
AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas.
ONSET...Ongoing.

DISCUSSION...
A ridge of high pressure aloft over the region will continue the
persistent hot and humid weather today. Afternoon heat indices
between 105 and 110 degrees are expected across all of eastern
Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Some locations in the lower
Arkansas River Valley of west central Arkansas and far east
central Oklahoma, as well as portions of northeast Oklahoma
between Highway 75 and 69 may exceed 110 degrees at times.

Isolated thunderstorms may develop early this afternoon atop the
Boston Mountains of northwest Arkansas, as well as the Ouachita
Mountains in west central Arkansas and southeast Oklahoma. Severe
weather is not expected, although brief, localized heavy rain and
gusty winds may occur with the strongest storms. The thunderstorm
potential will diminish toward sunset.

SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT...
Spotter Activation Not Expected.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday.
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY...Thunderstorm Potential...Dangerous Heat Potential.
FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY...Thunderstorm Potential.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
The ridge of high pressure aloft is expected to break down and
shift west for a few days. This will allow a cold front to push
into the region Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing relief
from the heat to close out the work week and into the weekend.

The front will also bring chances for thunderstorms by Wednesday
evening across northeast Oklahoma, spreading southeast into
northwest Arkansas on Thursday. Storm chances will drop down into
southeast Oklahoma and west central Arkansas on Friday and will
persist into Saturday. Another round of storm chances is forecast
across northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas Sunday into
Monday before the ridge of high pressure aloft rebuilds into
the region. Organized severe weather is not expected, but
localized heavy rainfall and gusty winds could accompany any
storms.
