.DISCUSSION...
...A Very High Fire Danger for Areas Along and Southeast of I-35...
Skies will be partly cloudy with increasing clouds this afternoon.
A cold front will move across the area this morning and into the
early afternoon hours. Surface winds will switch from the
southwest to the west late this morning, then west-southwest
behind the front. Winds this afternoon may gust up to 30 MPH.
Minimum RHs will be in the 22 to 30 percent range across the
southeast counties. The remainder of the area will see minimum RHs
in the 30 to 40 percent range.
A More Detailed Fire Weather Discussion:
The surface low across eastern CO this morning will track east-
southeast across the state of KS through the morning hours and then
shift east into western MO after 1 PM. At this time minimum RHs
will range from 23 to 30 percent for areas along and southeast of I-
35. Southwest winds this morning across the southeast counties of the
CWA will veer to west during the late morning and nearly
afternoon hours, before a cold front shift winds more to the
west-northwest after 2 PM. Ahead of the cold front highs will
reach around 60 degrease in the early afternoon hours, but winds
shift to the west-northwest behind the front, and temperatures
will drop through the 50s into the upper 40s by late afternoon.
There will be a window from 11 AM through 2 PM where a very high
fire danger may occur along and southeast of I-35. In this time
period Minimum RHs will be in the 23 to 30 percent range and
westerly winds may gust to near 30 MPH. But once the cold front
moves through temperatures will drop and RHs will rise into the
30 to 40 Percent range. The wind shifts will make fighting any
wild fires difficult Today.
There will be elevated fire danger next Tuesday through Thursday.
Temperatures will warm into the lower to middle 60s and there will
not be much moisture advection. Therefore, any deeper mixing will
cause RHs to drop during the afternoon hours and southerly winds may
gust up to 30 MPH.
