.DISCUSSION...
Strong winds are expected to create high fire danger today.
A cold front is forecast to move east across the area through
midday today causing winds to shift from the northwest and
begin gusting to around 35 mph. These strong winds are expected
to create high rangeland fire danger this afternoon. The RH
values staying above 35 percent is keeping the fire danger from
being higher. These strong winds should provide excellent
conditions for smoke dispersal.
Similar conditions are anticipated for Sunday with north
winds gusting to around 30 mph. RH values are forecast to fall
into the 30 to 35 percent range in the afternoon again causing
high rangeland fire danger.
There could be some light rain showers across northeast KS,
but rain amounts look to be pretty light. Much colder temps
move in tonight and last through Monday as high pressure builds
in. This cold snap is forecast to be short lived with temps
rebounding into the 60s by Tuesday. We could even see highs in
the 70s by the end of next week. The hard freeze Monday morning
should only accelerate the curing of fuels, so we`ll need to
keep an eye on fire danger as temps warm back up.
