...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 545 AM CDT EARLY THIS MORNING...
* WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Kansas, including
the following counties, in east central Kansas, Shawnee and
Wabaunsee. In northeast Kansas, Jackson, Jefferson and
Pottawatomie.
* WHEN...Until 545 AM CDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 239 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream
flooding. Between 0.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Topeka, Valley Falls, Rossville, Oskaloosa, Tecumseh, St.
Marys, Richland, Dover, Silver Lake, Auburn, Perry, McLouth,
Meriden, Hoyt, Ozawkie, Lecompton, Maple Hill, Winchester,
Belvue and Emmett.
- This includes the following highways...
Interstate 70 between mile markers 339 and 355.
Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 166 and 188.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
