The National Weather Service in Topeka has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northern Dickinson County in central Kansas...
Southeastern Ottawa County in north central Kansas...
* Until 1215 AM CDT.
* At 1044 PM CDT, trained weather spotters reported flooding in the
warned area, including in Abilene. Between 1.5 and 4 inches of
rain have fallen. Flooding impacts will continue, but no
additional rainfall is expected. Flash flooding is already
occurring.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Trained spotters reported.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Abilene, Chapman, Solomon, Enterprise, Moonlight and Talmage.
This includes Interstate 70 between mile markers 267 and 289.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
