...NWS TAMPA BAY RUSKIN TO ADD A RIVER FORECAST POINT FOR THE
LITTLE WITHLACOOCHEE RIVER AT RERDELL BEGINNING ON OCT 15, 2025...

The National Weather Service office in Tampa Bay area Ruskin FL
is pleased to announce the addition of a new river forecast point
for the Little Withlacoochee River at Rerdell FL, effective Oct
15, 2025. This new forecast point has been established in
coordination with local Emergency Management, U.S. Geological
Survey (USGS), and the Southeast River Forecast Center.


1. Location and Information:

River: Little Withlacoochee River

Location: On the State Road 471 bridge in Rerdell.

NWS Location Identifier (NWSLI): RERF1

Geographic Coordinates: Latitude 28.573 N, Longitude 82.156 W


2. Purpose and Justification:

This new forecast point was established to provide more precise
and timely hydrologic information for the Little Withlacoochee
River.

The location was chosen due to having a history of significant
flooding impacts.

The addition of this forecast point will assist emergency
managers, public officials, and the public in making better-
informed decisions regarding flood preparedness and response.


3. Flood Categories and Stages:

The following flood categories have been established for this new
forecast point:

- Action Stage: At 64.5 ft, river approaches bankful.

- Minor Flood Stage: At 65 ft, water impacts backyards of residences
  along the river.

- Moderate Flood Stage: At 67 ft, water impacts residences along
  the river.

- Major Flood Stage: At 71.4 ft, flooding expands signfigantly
  downstream from the bridge.

All forecasts for this point will be issued as a part of our
standard river forecast products when the river is expected to
rise near or above flood stage.

will be available on the NWS Tampa Bay area Ruskin website at
