Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tampa Bay Ruskin FL
811 PM EDT Tue Jul 29 2025

...New UPDATE, AVIATION, MARINE...

.UPDATE...
Issued at 807 PM EDT Tue Jul 29 2025

It has been a fairly active afternoon with scattered storms firing
up over the area. The maximum winds observed were around 30-40 mph
in the strongest storms. Some storms remain over Hardee and Desoto
counties, but things are expected to quiet down overnight with
partly cloudy skies expected. The more pressing weather concern was
the extreme heat. Winterhaven and Ruskin both hit record highs
topping out at 100 degrees and 97 degrees. Widespread heat indices
of 113+ degrees were also reported with Tampa International Airport
breaking a heat index record reaching 119 degrees. The heat will
continue on Wednesday with heat indices exceeding 108 degrees for
most of the area once again. This has warranted the issuance of a
Heat Advisory from noon until 7 pm on Wednesday. No big changes
needed to current forecast.

Issued at 807 PM EDT Tue Jul 29 2025

Weak high pressure ridging across south Florida and into the eastern
gulf will keep a light southwest wind around 10 knots or less and
seas less than 2 feet over the waters. Scattered showers and storms
will be possible each day through the week. Gusty winds, frequent
lightning and heavy downpours could accompany these storms and make
for localized hazardous conditions.
