Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT
1115 AM MST Mon Jan 27 2025

On Tuesday January 28th, the Salt Lake City Weather Forecast Office
will have a planned power outage due to building construction. This
will lead to a number of products and services being temporarily
offline, as listed below. The outage of these items will last from
around 7am MST through 6pm MST. Public safety alerts, routine
forecasts, and other critical weather information will continue to
be provided through the outage as our sister office in Grand
Junction temporarily takes over responsibility for our forecast
area.

The following products and services will be unavailable during the
outage:

-KMTX and KICX radars (northern and southern Utah Doppler radars).
KMTX will continue to operate, but data will not be disseminated.
KICX will be down for unrelated maintenance.
-TSLC, the FAA Terminal Doppler Weather Radar near Farmington. The
site will continue to operate, but data will not be publicly
disseminated.
-NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio Transmitters covering most of Utah
and Uinta County, WY.
-Salt Lake City Airport ASOS automated weather observations.
-5PM RAOB (weather balloon release data).

The power outage is for construction of a new Uninterruptible Power
Supply. This is the third of three planned power outages dating back
to last summer, which together will allow complete replacement of our
generator and UPS system, and ensures that we will not have
unplanned power outages in the future. We apologize for the
inconvenience this may bring on Tuesday 1/28/25. We will be able to
better serve our partners for the coming decades with the completion
of this upgrade.
