.DISCUSSION...High pressure remains the dominant feature over the
region today, though will gradually begin breaking down as a
weather system approaches the west coast. This pattern will bring
increasing southwesterly winds aloft today, with a slight
improvement in mixing is expected as a result. However, clearing
index values are expected to remain below 500 as these winds
will not be enough to fully scour the strong inversion conditions
already in place. Surface winds gradually increase into Thursday,
with wind gusts peaking around 15-20 mph on Thursday afternoon.

Weak moisture transport into the region early Friday on the
fringes of a low pressure system off the coast of southern
California may lead to some scattered rain showers through Friday
afternoon, though any accumulations during this period are
expected to remain light. The low pressure system initially off
the coast is expected to move inland Sunday into early next week,
which will bring better chances for wetting rains and potential
for accumulating snowfall. There is a good amount of uncertainty
in potential accumulations due to variability in the storm track,
though generally cooler and wetter conditions can be expected
Sunday into early next week.
