758 FNCA62 TJSJ 060901 RFDSJU PRZ014-015-027-062100- Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service San Juan PR 501 AM AST Sun Jul 6 2025 ...ELEVATED FIRE DANGER EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN PUERTO RICO TODAY... Fire danger conditions have deteriorated, with an elevated risk expected today across southern Puerto Rico, primarily due to a prolonged lack of wetting rainfall. Precipitation totals over the past 30 to 60 days have fallen to just 510 percent of normal in the driest southern plains and hills. Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) values exceed 600 in these areas, indicating severe dryness and highly flammable fuels. Backing easterly winds and the arrival of a drier air mass today will contribute to lowering relative humidities to between 40 and 55 percent. Persistent high- level clouds may slightly reduce daytime heating but are unlikely to increase humidity or produce rainfall, providing minimal relief to fire danger. Breezy conditionswith sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts near 25 mphwill further elevate the potential for rapid fire spread, particularly following ignition in the most fire-prone areas of southern Puerto Rico. While fire danger is lower elsewhere, the risk of spread cannot be ruled out, especially across the Central Mountain Range and eastern interior, where rainfall has also been well below normal. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid outdoor burning and exercise extreme caution with any fire-related activities. Report any fires or smoke immediately by calling 9-1-1 or your local fire department. Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and spread of wildfires. Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning criteria. $$
