Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service San Juan PR
513 AM AST Tue Jul 22 2025

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS THE SOUTHERN
COASTAL PLAINS OF PUERTO RICO TODAY...

Weather conditions will once again favor fire weather today.
Increasing winds will promote breezy conditions across the county
warning area, with easterly-eastsoutheasterly winds between 16 -
20 mph and gusts up to 26 mph. A drier air mass will filter into
the region, and relative humidities are expected to drop between
48 - 50 %, below thresholds over the southern coastal plains of
Puerto Rico. Another important detail is that this fire weather
zone is abnormally dry, based on the latest U.S. Drought Monitor
report. Additionally, stations over these areas (Cabo Rojo and
Guanica) have been reporting KDBI values above thresholds for the
last 30 days (latest report: 616 and 664 respectively). Based on
the current conditions and the weather forecast, the fire danger
risk will be elevated for the Southern Coastal Plains of Puerto
Rico today.

Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather
conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and
spread of wildfires.

Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions
are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning
criteria.
