Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service San Juan PR
507 AM AST Mon Apr 7 2025

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED ACROSS SOUTHERN
PUERTO RICO TODAY...

Winds will turn from the southeast, increasing up to 20 mph and
higher gusts around 27 mph. KDBI values continue increasing,
mainly in southern portions, as the Guanica station reported above
threshold values (640), and stations in Maricao and Cabo Rojo
continue increasing as well (397 and 370 respectively).
Additionally, southern coastal plains of Puerto Rico continue with
a precipitation deficit and very dry soils, and relative
humidities dropping again below thresholds (around 41%). With no
significant precipitation expected for the area, fire danger
conditions will be elevated today for southern Puerto Rico.
Therefore, a Fire Danger Statement has been issued.

Fire and emergency officials should be aware that weather
conditions are becoming more conducive for the ignition and spread
of wildfires.

Fire danger statements are issued when fire weather conditions
are approaching, but not meeting or exceeding, Red Flag Warning
criteria.
