.DISCUSSION...
The drier weather is about to come to an end as a line of showers
now approaching the southern boundary of our forecast area signals
the entry of a moist air mass. Temperatures will rise a little
today and remain warm tomorrow, but additional showers will end
the warming trend. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are
indicated for most of the upcoming seven days. The winds will
remain gentle to moderate with a few higher gusts. However, due to
recent rains, soils are wet, and the criteria for fire danger are
not met. KBDI values are all below 100 except in Cotton Valley
which has 727. (However the 10 hr fuel moisture there is 23--the
wettest of all except Maricao). Guanica has begun to see some
drying of fuels where the 10 hour is still 18 percent--still well
above critical levels. Therefore, the risk of dangerous fire
behavior is low today. The outlook is for increasing moisture
today and Saturday which will continue through much of next week
with a few exceptions.
