175 FXUS64 KSJT 292253 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 553 PM CDT Tue Jul 29 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Mainly hot and dry conditions expected through Thursday, with near to above normal temperatures expected. - Slightly cooler temperatures are expected Friday and Saturday, with a slight chance for rain showers on Friday afternoon and Saturday. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 1240 PM CDT Tue Jul 29 2025 High pressure will continue to build across the region leaving hot and dry conditions in place through Wednesday. Overnight lows tonight are expected to range in the mid 60s to mid 70s, with the warmest temperatures expected across the Big Country. Wednesday afternoon high temperatures are expected to range in the mid 90s and up to 103 degrees, with the warmest temperatures expected across the Big Country. Generally light southerly winds will remain in place across the area, with a few areas possibly seeing some infrequent gusts up to 15 mph this afternoon. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Tuesday) Issued at 138 PM CDT Tue Jul 29 2025 Models are trending a bit faster with the cold front later this week. Many of the models are now showing the front reaching our area on Thursday rather than Friday, as convection in the Panhandle reinforces the front and pushes it south into the Big Country. If the front does push south on Thursday rather than Friday, high temperatures in the Big Country will likely need to be adjusted down a few degrees. Right now, the forecast has highs on Thursday in the mid 90s to around 102, with a medium chance (50%) of San Angelo hitting the 100 degree mark. This would be the only 100 degree day for July in San Angelo, if it occurs. The last time San Angelo did not record a single 100 degree day in July was in 2007. Temperatures will decrease for Friday and Saturday, as the ridge shifts further west, away from our area, and the surface low and front sit around West Central Texas. The combination of weak surface convergence near the front and weak disturbances in the northerly flow aloft will lead to low end rain chances for Friday and the weekend. The majority of ensemble members keep rain amounts under an inch for our forecast area. Surface winds will turn back to the south by Sunday and the upper ridge will start to shift back to the east, leading to warmer temperatures for the start of next week. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 552 PM CDT Tue Jul 29 2025 VFR conditions and light south to southeast winds will prevail across West Central Texas terminals through Wednesday afternoon. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
