Above normal temperatures return for the weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday) Issued at 120 PM CDT Wed Apr 9 2025 Dry northwest flow is in place aloft, with south to southwest winds at the surface. This, along with sunny skies is allowing for temperatures to warm into the 80s to lower 90s across the area today. A very weak cold front that will act more as a wind shift for our northern counties will move into the Big Country tonight, with northeast winds slowly spreading south across the rest of the area tomorrow. However, temperatures will only be a few degrees cooler for area north of Interstate 10 tomorrow. Highs will still be in the 80s north of I-10, and in the lower 90s along and south of I-10. Clear skies with no precipitation expected through Thursday evening. && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through next Wednesday) Issued at 120 PM CDT Wed Apr 9 2025 Highs on Friday will be slightly above normal across West Central Texas. Expect highs in the low to mid 80s. A warming trend is then expected into the weekend with highs well above normal. Highs on Saturday will approach 90, with the warmest day being Sunday as an 850mb thermal ridge strengthens across the region. Highs will be in the low to mid 90s, although a few locations could approach the upper 90s. A cold front will track south across the area Monday, resulting in gusty north winds and slightly cooler temperatures. Highs across the Big Country will be in the low to mid 80s, where an earlier frontal passage is expected. Highs farther south will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Expect highs on Tuesday and Wednesday near seasonal normals, in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible during the first part of next week, but at this point, most locations look to remain dry. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 631 PM CDT Wed Apr 9 2025 VFR conditions and clear skies are expected through the next 24 hours. South-southwest winds, which had been gusty through the afternoon, will drop off considerably this evening. A weak cold front will sag south across the Big Country tonight, and then slow its progress into the Concho Valley Thursday morning. The front should reach kSJT and KBBD around 17Z. The front will continue a slow movement to the south in the afternoon, reaching KJCT/KSOA around 23Z.
