Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southwest Arkansas...
Northwest Louisiana...East Texas...and Extreme Southeast Oklahoma
National Weather Service Shreveport LA
1257 AM CDT Sat Aug 16 2025

.DISCUSSION...
Very hot and humid conditions will continue this weekend through at least
mid week next week, as a large upper level ridge of high pressure will
expand east and amplify from the Ozarks/Mid Mississippi Valley into the
Tennessee Valley/Mid-Atlantic region. This ridge will also expand farther
southwest into our region Sunday into early next week, intensifying the
heat further with afternoon temperatures climbing into the upper 90s/lower
100s. Isolated to widely scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms will
again be possible today mainly over Southwest Arkansas, North Louisiana,
and Lower East Texas, near a residual weak upper level disturbance, although
coverage should be lower than what has been observed the last few days.
With weak surface high pressure building over the area this weekend, 20ft winds
will be light and variable, with min RH`s ranging from 40-50%. As the upper
ridging expands back farther southwest into the area Sunday, any shower and
thunderstorm development will be more isolated and confined generally along and
south of I-20 Sunday into the first half of the new work week, before the ridge
retreats back west, favoring slightly cooler temperatures and an increase in
scattered showers and thunderstorms over the region for the latter half of the
week.
