PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
National Weather Service SAN DIEGO CA
250 PM PDT Fri May 23 2025

...PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT ON SYSTEM UPDATES AND OUTAGES MAY
27-29...

The National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in San
Diego, California will be conducting a required, scheduled update
to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS)
system from May 27, 2025 at 7 AM through approximately May 28,
2025 at 5 PM. The NWS uses the AWIPS computer system to display
and integrate weather and water information, and to send life-
saving information, such as weather and water warnings, to the
public.

During the time of the update, forecast operations will be
conducted by our service back-up office in Los Angeles/Oxnard to
minimize any potential interruption to services. No impacts to our
core services of forecast products and weather watches, warnings
and advisories are expected during this period. However, limited
impacts will occur to the following services:

* NOAA Weather Transmitters: All NOAA Weather Radio transmitters
maintained by NWS San Diego will be off air through the time of
the install. This includes the following transmitters in
Southern California: Mt Woodson, Mt Soledad, Santa Ana,
Strawberry Peak, and Coachella. Related watches and warnings
from the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will not be transmitted
via NOAA Weather Radio. Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) that are
sent to cell phones will not be affected and these products
will continue to appear on our website. It is always good to
have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. To learn more,
  visit weather.gov/safety/preparedness
* Daily Climate Reports (CLI and CF6) and Coast Guard Reports (CGRSGX)
will not be issued through the time of the install. Weather
observations will still be available at
  https://www.weather.gov/wrh/hazards?obs=true&wfo=sgx
* Local graphical forecast maps that are hosted in numerous
places on www.weather.gov/sgx will not be updated. This includes
all maps on the Graphical Hazardous Weather Outlook page
  (https://www.weather.gov/erh/ghwo?wfo=sgx)

The forecast office in San Diego will remain open and staffed
throughout this period for public and partner phone calls and
additional functions that can be completed without AWIPS.
