090 FXUS66 KSGX 011023 AFDSGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Diego CA 323 AM PDT Tue Jul 1 2025 .SYNOPSIS... A weak upper level low pressure system moving inland through central and southern California on Wednesday will cool high temperatures around 5 degrees through Thursday. The marine layer will slowly deepen through Thursday with night and morning coastal low clouds spreading farther into the valleys late each night. This will be followed by a slow warming trend through next weekend with high temperatures warming around 5 degrees through Sunday. Night and morning coastal low clouds will not spread as far into the valleys for next weekend. && .DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES... .SHORT TERM (Today through Thursday)... A weak upper level low pressure system centered off the central California coast will move slowly inland into central and southern California on Wednesday, then weaken and move inland into Arizona on Thursday. This will spread cooling inland through Thursday with high temperatures cooling around 5 degrees through Thursday with high temperatures on Thursday as much as 4 to 8 degrees below average for the mountains and inland valleys. High temperatures on Thursday will range from around 70 near the coast to the 80s and lower 90s for the Inland Empire with 104 to 108 degrees for the lower deserts. A marine layer near 1500 to 2000 feet deep will deepen to 2000 to 2500 feet for Thursday with night and morning coastal low clouds spreading farther into the valleys. && .LONG TERM (Friday through Monday)... A slow warming trend will follow for Friday into early next week with high temperatures for the coast and valleys warming to around average on Sunday with high temperatures for the lower deserts warming to around 10 degrees above average for early next week. High temperatures on Sunday will range from the lower 70s near the coast to the upper 80s to mid 90s for the Inland Empire with 106 to 110 for the lower deserts. The marine layer will decrease in depth to 1500 to 2000 feet with night and morning coastal low clouds only spreading into portions of the western valleys late each night for the weekend. && .AVIATION... 011000Z....Coast/Valleys...Low clouds based 800-1300 ft MSL have pushed into coastal SD County with coastal Orange County filling in currently. Clouds reaching up to 15 miles inland by 12z. Vis restrictions (1-5SM) for elevated western valleys. Clouds and vis restrictions clearing inland 14-16Z and along the coast 16-18Z, though there is a 30-40% chance of BKN-OVC CIGS at the San Diego County beaches through the afternoon. Clouds with similar bases push inland again after 03z Wednesday. Otherwise areas of FU/HZ near ongoing wildfires (vis 1-3SM) in the Inland Empire. .Mountains/Deserts...West winds gusting 25-35 kt through the passes and on the desert mountain slopes Tuesday afternoon and evening with associated MOD UDDFS over and east of the mountains. && .MARINE... No hazardous marine weather conditions are expected through Saturday. && .BEACHES... Building southerly swell (190 degrees) of 3 feet at 14-15 seconds will generate elevated surf of 3-5 ft with sets to 6 ft along southerly facing beaches and strong rip and longshore currents at all beaches Friday and Saturday. Swell and surf will begin to lower on Sunday. && .SKYWARN... Skywarn activation is not requested.
