Fire Weather Planning Forecast for southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri
National Weather Service Springfield MO
1101 AM CDT Tue Mar 11 2025

.DISCUSSION...

A mid morning update for the issuance of a Red Flag Warning for far southeast Kansas
and southwest Missouri from Joplin to Springfield and points southwest. This is due
to RH values dropping into the 15 to 20 percent range today. Some areas will
likely drop close to 10 percent. Sustained winds are more borderline for Red Flag however still
expecting sustained around 15-20mph and gusts of 25-30mph. Fuels are quite dry which will promote
erratic fire behavior. The combo of the RH and fuels increased confidence to issue a Red Flag Warning
for today.

There is a 10 to 40% chance for some scattered rain showers and
maybe a few rumbles of thunder on Wednesday, especially along and
south of the I-44 corridor, but not all locations will see rain.
Additional rain chances (40-70%), potentially more widespread,
will occur late in the week, but there are still questions on the
exact track and timing of that system.

Strong winds are expected on Friday, with sustained winds of
25-30 mph and gusts up to 45-50 mph. Relative humidity values
Friday afternoon are expected to be in the 30-40% range, but
depending on the quality of the moisture return with the late-week
system, RH values could drop further, creating elevated fire
conditions once again.
