Fire Weather Planning Forecast for southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri
National Weather Service Springfield MO
301 PM CDT Wed Jul 22 2026

.DISCUSSION...

A cold (cool) front passed through the area last night. The cool
front is bringing more northerly winds, relatively cooler weather
(highs capping out in the lower to middle 80s), and better mixing
with ventrates at 55-65 kt-ft and mixing heights at around 4-6
kft. The northerly winds are expected to be a bit constant at 8-12
mph with gusts up to 15-20 mph at times.

While minimum RHs across the area are expected to range between
40-50%, with greater mixing behind the front, short-term models
suggest a 50-60% chance for some locations (particularly ridge
tops and exposed areas) to reach below 40%. Areas near Branson may
dip below 30% RHs (30-40% chance), but would require locally
higher temperatures.

Winds become more easterly tonight, then become southeasterly
Thursday night. Moisture returns Friday into Saturday as a warm
frontal passage moves through, shifting winds to southwesterly and
increasing rain chances to 40-60% across the area.
